OCED Welcomes New Intern Karina Macias
OCED would like to welcome its newest student intern, Karina Lizeth Macias. Karina is a current Fresno State student majoring in Public Relations. She joins the team as part of the MCJ 191 Internship Course and will be completing 150 hours this semester, focusing specifically on the San Joaquin Valley Rural Development Center. As part of her duties, Karina will be assisting in the day-to-day maintenance of the SJV RDC website and social media channels.
Karina is not new to understanding rural communities. She was raised in the rural community of San Joaquin and is a graduate of Tranquility High School. Over the years, she has been successful at leveraging the skills and education she’s garnered, and at age 21, while enrolled in college, she opened her own small business in San Joaquin: a hair salon that employed two members of the local community.
“Growing up around family-owned businesses sparked an interest in entrepreneurship as well as a love for my community,” says Karina.
We look forward to working with Karina and hope to be able to provide her with new skills for her small business and future endeavors helping rural communities!
