Office of Community and Economic Development

Staff Spotlight: Kamryn Kubose

kamryn

Kamryn is a Fresno native and recent graduate from UCLA where she obtained her B.S. Environmental Science degree. During her time in college, she worked closely with the Office of Sustainability on several projects, including the development of student-run water audits, administration of LEED Green Associate training sessions, and support for sustainability reporting and data collection of the campus.

After graduation, she interned at an architecture and urban design firm in downtown Long Beach. Working under the sustainability director, Kamryn documented LEED credits, provided site design and programming for a supportive housing project, and created infographics to display her research on industry sustainability trends.

What do you do for OCED?

Kamryn is a Climate Corps AmeriCorps Fellow working with Frida Cardoza on various projects. She coordinates and develops outreach strategies for the Fresno COG Agworker Vanpool Program in order to inform farmworkers about the free vanpool service to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. She also managed the San Joaquin Valley Blueprint Awards by putting out the calls for nominations, selecting the jury, and producing a video to be shown at the award ceremony.

What's the last book you read?

“A Short History of Nearly Everything” by Bill Bryson. His style is so organized, and I love his enthusiasm for different disciplines and how they are connected. Currently reading The End of Night by Paul Bogard, which is about the history and effects of light pollution.

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?

I would swap with Tim Ferriss - angel investor, author, and productivity expert - just to see how extremely productive a day is for him!

What's your favorite local meal?

The pad thai from SaBaiDee on First & Bullard!

Have you ever met anyone famous?

I met Dr. Jordan Peterson when he gave a lecture in Los Angeles in January 2018. I got to shake his hand and he signed my book!

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to be a Director of Sustainability for a government entity or higher education institution.
