Parent University Graduations in Several Rural Communities

December has been a busy week for our Parent UniversityTeam. Since 2013 Team OCED via it’s San Joaquin Valley Rural Development Center (SJV RDC) initiative has been providing school districts in rural communities of the San Joaquin Valley the opportunity to engage in Fresno State’s Parent University program.

Since its initial establishment, well over 5,000 parents have participated in Fresno State’s Parent University program. The goal of this program is to offer these communities an opportunity to learn useful career skills that will complement their own career goals.

Parent University offers the following courses: Digital Literacy, Financial Literacy, English Language Comprehension, and Parenting Skills.

Last week ( Dec. 10 - Dec. 14, 2018) Parent University graduated over 40 parents after going through our Parent University Program. What is rewarding about this program is parents not only graduate being taught useful skills but they also graduate with an immense load of enthusiasm knowing they are making a difference in their life and their child's life.

Adriana Angelica Renteria says she is grateful for having the opportunity to participate in this program because as a mother she wants is to make her children proud and together work for a better future. Parent University along with its partners made that possible for her and her classmates.

Renteria thanks the community, Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District, and the Parent University team for believing in her and her classmates.
