Opportunity and Investment in the San Joaquin Valley

June 12, 2019 – The San Joaquin Valley Housing Collaborative hosted Opportunity and Investment in the San Joaquin Valley Workshop in Fresno, CA at Parc Grove Commons Clubhouse a Fresno Housing Authority site. The day began with a light continental breakfast starting at 10 am with a warm welcome and housekeeping items from the days emcee Nick Martinez staff to the housing collaborative. Presentations framing the issues, challenges, and investment needs were given by Danielle Mazella from CHPC, Ashley Werner from Leadership for Justice and Accountability and Betsy McGovern-Garcia from Self-Help Enterprises.  

After lunch, the workshop offered roundtable discussions one for New Funding Resources and Programs. The first team of roundtable guests was Elliot Balch from Central Valley Community Foundation, Imaez Wahid from California Department of Housing and Community, and Anthony Galace from Greenlining Institute. The final roundtable offered was risks and solutions addressed by Patricia Villasenor from California Reinvestment Coalition and Mariah Thompson from California Rural Legal Assistance. SJVHC Staff concluded the workshop by evaluating the overall needs heard from attendees throughout the day to take the next steps.

Over 55 attendees were present throughout the day to listen in on the workshop or participate as presenters. Some of the attendees representing their organization present were folks from Grid Alternatives, legal agents, city staff, Bank of the West. The SJVHC workshops serve as a resource to connect organizations who normally would not be in the same room all at once.

The San Joaquin Valley Housing Collaborative will host the 8th Annual Affordable Housing Summit in Visalia, Ca on September 19th at the Wyndham hotel.
