Rural Development Center Connects with Rural Community Leadership Throughout the Country

2019 Rural Women’s Summit

OCED project coordinator Frida Cardoza attended the Rural Women’s Summit on October 27-29 in Greenville South Carolina. This event was an opportunity for OCED to share innovative ways rural women are taking a leading role in their communities. This event serves the Fresno State Office of Community and Economic Development’s Rural Development Center by providing creative strategies in approaching rural communities facing food insecurities, water infrastructure updates, building stronger relationships, and creating a culturally inclusive future.

2019 California Housing Summit

The Rural Development Center was represented by OCED project coordinator Frida Cardoza at the 2019 California Housing Summit in Los Angeles, CA. This year’s theme was California Dreamin’: Towards A Brighter Housing Future. The summit connected rural housing, community development, city, county professionals, energy saving companies, and state directors to discuss challenges rural communities are facing related to housing. Workshops and speakers provided the RDC with strategies to approach rural communities facing housing challenges with homelessness, farmworker housing, healthy housing, or rural homeownership.
