Parent University Celebrates Fall Digital Literacy Graduates

This November, Fresno State Parent University celebrated the parents who have completed the Digital Literacy I program. Courses were hosted in Madera, Modesto, Mendota, and Firebaugh. The Digital Literacy course is a free 9-week program that meets twice a week for two and a half hours. These classes were free to the community and taught parents basic computer skills. The Parent University Program is administered by OCED and aims to teach parents the foundational computer skills necessary to help their children to succeed in school. Parent University instructors include community members and Fresno State students and alumni.

For many parents, this was the first “Graduation” they have experienced. Many parents were emotional when presented with their certificates. Fresno State provided certificates signed by the superintendent of the school district as well as President Castro from Fresno State. Representatives of elected officials also attended to present the awards to parents. Graduates were also recognized by the office of Senator Anna Cabellero, Assemblymember Frank Bigelow, and Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula.
