OCED Reports on Progress of Lifeline Program to the Low Income Oversight Board

Fresno State Office of Community and Economic Development's Interim executive director Eduardo González and Project Manager Miguel Lopez attended the Low Income Oversight Board Meeting in San Diego, CA on behalf of the Fresno State Life Line program and the San Joaquin Valley Broadband Consortium.  The Low Income Oversight Board was created by the State Legislature to advise the California Public Utilities Commission on low-income electric and gas customer issues and to serve as a liaison for the Commission to low-income ratepayers and representatives. At the September 16th meeting, OCED’s role was to report on the progress the office has made with establishing the Lifeline program.

Much of the work that OCED does revolves around community development and providing various services and assistance to low-income communities in the San Joaquin Valley.  The Low Income Oversight Board advises the California Public Utilities Commission in matters concerning low-income electric and gas customers throughout the state of California.  This event provides an opportunity for OCED to voice its activities and raise issues related to low-income rate-payers and gas customers in the San Joaquin Valley. This event is targeted towards utility companies, internet service providers, investor owned utilities, advocacy groups, and the general public. It also provides an opportunity for advocates and those directly involved in providing assistance to low-income electric and gas customers to exchange ideas and foster partnerships that can greatly advance ongoing efforts to provide assistance to low-income communities.
