45th Annual Central California Research Symposium
Call for Abstracts
Abstracts from all areas of study are encouraged
Symposium Date: Wednesday, April 3, 2024
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
California State University, Fresno
The Resnick Student Union
Student Deadline: Thursday, February 15, 2024 by 11:59 p.m.
Faculty Approval Deadline: Thursday February 22, 2024 by 11:59 p.m.
Deadline: Thursday, February 15, 2024
The purpose of the Symposium is to share recent research with community investigators
in various fields, college students, and faculty as well as to encourage research
activities in the Central Valley. All fields of research will be considered for presentation
to exchange further ideas among investigators and the general public.
All individuals, including faculty, residents, graduate and undergraduate students
are encouraged to submit abstracts.
All abstracts will be peer reviewed. Comparative analysis, data, and results of completed
research or research in advanced stages of completion must be described in the abstract.
Abstracts will be judged by the coordinating committee on the criteria outlined below:
• Scholarly merit appropriate to the discipline
• Creativity
• Timeliness
• Value
• Clarity to an audience of scholars not necessarily from the same discipline.
Abstracts should not contain technical jargon and undefined symbols. The most frequent reason for rejection of proposals is absence of results.
No more than one presentation may be made by an individual author. This does not preclude a co-author
from making a presentation.
Judges attending each session will recommend undergraduate and graduate students for
cash awards.
Presentation Guidelines
Authors should indicate their preference for either an oral OR a poster presentation.
Twelve-Minute Oral Presentations will be followed by 3 minutes for discussion.
Poster Presentation format details will be provided to authors selected for a poster presentation.
Time and Location of Presentation: Notification of acceptance will specify location and exact time of presentation. Some
oral sessions may be interdisciplinary.
Sponsorship Requirement: Authors of papers entered in the student competition must be sponsored by a faculty
member. Your submission will be routed to your faculty mentor for approval. A completed application
consists of your abstract submission and your faculty mentor’s electronic approval.
Only competed applications will be considered.
Acceptance Policy: In order to participate in sessions, participants must confirm their invitation to
present. Presenters who do not confirm will not be scheduled.
Withdrawal Policy: If a first author chooses to withdraw his or her abstract for any reason, a request
must be submitted by March 29, 2024.
All abstracts selected for presentation will be published in the Central California
Research Symposium Proceedings.
Student awards followed by a social hour will conclude the symposium.
