Academic Warning (Formerly Probation) and Academic Notice (Formerly Disqualification)

An undergraduate student must maintain a 2.00 grade point average (GPA) in both campus (all coursework taken at Fresno State) and cumulative (total) GPA (all coursework attempted at all colleges) to remain in Good Standing. If a student’s campus or cumulative GPA falls below a 2.00, they will be placed on Academic Warning (Formerly Probation) and Academic Notice (Formerly Disqualification).

Undergraduate students who have been placed on academic notice are encouraged to contact their Major College Advising Center for information on the Steps for Readmission.

An undergraduate student whose campus (all coursework taken at Fresno State) or cumulative GPA is below a 2.00 will be placed on Academic Warning until they are dismissed under the provisions of Academic Notice.

Freshman & Sophomore Standing Students

Students who are at a Freshman student level (0-29 units earned) and Sophomore student level (30-59 units earned) will meet with Academic Success Coaching three times during the term. The Academic Success Coaching staff will clear the Academic Success Coaching Probation Hold once requirements are met.  

Junior & Senior Standing Students

Students who are at a Junior student level (60-89 units earned) and Senior student level (90+ units earned) will be meeting with their Major Advising Center during the term to discuss ways to become successful. The Academic Counselor from the Major Advising Center will clear the Academic Warning hold.

An undergraduate student may be placed on academic notice if either campus or total (cumulative) GPA fall below the level based on units earned at the end of the Spring term. 

  • Freshman (29 units or less) will be placed on academic notice if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.50
  • Sophomore (30-59 units) will be placed on academic notice if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.70
  • Junior (60-89 units) will be placed on academic notice if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.85
  • Senior (90 units or higher) will be placed on academic notice if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.95
  • Post Baccalaureate (0+ units) will be placed on academic notice if their total or campus GPA is below a 1.95.
A student who is academically disqualified from Fresno State must reapply to the university.  Please review Steps for Readmission for additional information.
