Members Present: A. Lawson (Chair), S. Adisasmito-Smith,

Members Absent: J. Charalambides (excused).

The meeting was called to order by Chair Lawson at 11:05 a.m. in
University Center, room #203.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 2/1/2008.
  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda .
  3. Communications and Announcements.
    D. Nef and S. Adisasmito-Smith are going to the American
    Association of Colleges and Universities GE meeting in Boston
    February 21-23.
  4. Upper Division Writing Requirement and Faculty Workload.
    MSC to send a memo to the Provost, Senate Chair, Deans
    and Department Chairs indicating that the periodic
    review of GE courses will be examining adherence to
    all GE policies including enrollment limits (50 students
    for upper division) and inclusion of the iterative writing
    requirement.
  5. Syllabi Review Area IC.
    a. Current syllabi for area IC courses were distributed to
    committee members for review.
    b. D. Nef will distribute model syllabus for all courses.
    c. A. Lawson will create a template for syllabi evaluation and
    will email it to committee members.
  6. Antro105W MI, Anthro 116W ID as sole W class in General Education.
    Discussion involved whether or not the committee would agree to
    hear other proposals from other departments for W courses to be
    included in GE. Discussion of the topic will continue in future
    meetings.

MSC to adjourn 12:50 p.m.
The next scheduled meeting of the General Education Committee will be
Friday, February 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the University Center # 203.
