Members Present: A. Lawson (Chair), S. Adisasmito-Smith,
D.Christensen, K. Miller, D. Nef, M. Miller.
Members Absent: J. Charalambides (excused),
D. Henriques (excused), S. Lewis (excused).

The meeting was called to order by Chair Lawson at 11:15 a.m. in
University Center, room #203.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 2/15/2008.
  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as amended (add program
    review schedule as #5).
  3. Communications and Announcements.
    D. Nef and Chair Lawson attended General Education (GE) affinity
    group in Long Beach on 2/29/08 where draft of revision to
    executive order 595 was discussed. A copy of the draft will be
    emailed to committee members.
    D. Nef and S. Adisasmito-Smith attended American Association of
    Colleges and Universities meeting on GE assessment in Boston
    2/21-23/08. A summary will be given at the next GE meeting.
  4. Syllabi Review Area IC.
    a. Area IC course review form was distributed for comments.
    b. Dennis will send enrollment data for IC courses to
    committee members along with model syllabi.
  5. Program Review Schedule.
    a. Sally Murphy from CSU East Bay and Lisa Maxfield from
    CSU Long Beach have agreed to serve as outside reviewers.
    I. Jones from the business school has also agreed to serve.
    b. Minutes of 1-18-08 reflect potential groups for the teams to
    visit with. This will be re-sent to M. Wilson.
    c. The committee would prefer to schedule the site visit for a
    Friday in April.
    d. D. Nef’s office will finalize site visit date, arrange for meeting
    space and send invitations to various groups.
  6. Learning Outcomes Sessions.
    a. A letter to Chairs and faculty prior to any learning outcomes
    sessions should include existing outcomes and proposed
    outcomes (or a statement that previous meeting did not
    generate any outcomes).
    b. The committee would like to propose two hour meetings in
    the regularly scheduled meeting time by area.
  7. Antro105W and 116W as sole W class in General Education.
    Postponed.

MSC to adjourn 12:50 p.m.
The next scheduled meeting of the General Education Committee will be
Friday, March 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the University Center # 203.
