    b. The possibility of a Doctorate in Nursing at CSU–Fresno was
    announced.
  4. Discussion of Physics Program.
The Graduate Committee compliments the Physics Department for
excellent student mentoring. The students and the faculty are
very active in research and publishing. Recommendations for the
    Physics program follow:
    1. Even though the department aggressively works to secure
university support for its graduate students, the student
numbers are low. The department is encouraged to pursue
    graduate student recruitment opportunities.
    2. It appears the SOAP has not been updated since 2000. It
needs to be revised, updated, and assessment should be
formalized, less ad hoc. The department needs to make clear
just how this information will be used to improve the
    program.
    3. The department needs to create formal, written project
    guidelines.
    4. The Graduate Committee concurs with the site team
recommendation that students would be better served by
more faculty members teaching graduate courses.
    5. The department should develop a required core and submit
it for inclusion in the catalogue.
    6. The Graduate Committee recommends approving Physics as
a program of quality and promise.
