Members Present: B. Tsukimura (Chair), M. Darling, J. Farrar,
D. Harris, P. Popma. J. Redd–Williams.

Members Absent: K. Forbes (excused), J. Olson–Buchanan (excused),
J. Valdes (student).

The meeting was called to order by Chair Tsukimura at 9:15 a.m. in the
University Center, Room #203.

  1. Minutes. MSC to amend the Minutes of 2/28/2008 as follows:
    D. Harris was absent on 2/28/2008. Her absence was excused.
  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.
  3. Communications and Announcements.
    a. Discussion of the Academic Senate meeting of 2/25/2008 regarding
    introduction of the Student Rating System. The last day to submit
    items to the Executive Committee is April 7, 2008.
    b. J. Redd–Williams recommended Linda Brase attend the Personnel
    Committee Meeting to discuss Absence Management. The committee
    approved meeting for later this semester.
    c. J. Redd–Williams updated the committee on Equity Salary Increases.
    Many but not all Assistant Professors will be getting salary increases
    that average $2500–3000 annually. Assistant Professors hired in
    the last two years will not receive an equity increase. The method of
    calculation differs based on where the faculty member’s salary is in
    relation to the salary maximum. More accurate information will be
    distributed soon by Academic Personnel.
    d. J. Redd–Williams – Executive Session.
  4. (APM 361) Policy on Faculty Leaves of Absence.
    Continued discussion.
  5. Work Life Issues.
    Postponed.
  6. (APM 114) Policy on Faculty Consultation and Voting.
    Continued discussion.
  7. Policy & Procedures for Fingerprinting & Conducting Background Checks.
    Postponed.

MSC to adjourn (10:35 a.m.)

The next scheduled meeting of the Personnel Committee will be Thursday, March
13, 2008 at 9:00 a.m., in the University Center # 203. The entire committee
membership may be reached at the e–mail alias “perscom”.
