Members Present: B. Tsukimura (Chair), K. Forbes, D. Harris,
J. Olson–Buchanan, P. Popma, J. Redd–Williams.

Members Absent: J. Farrar (excused), D. Harris.

The meeting was called to order by Chair Tsukimura at 9:16 a.m. in the
University Center, Room #203.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 5/03/2007.
  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.
  3. Communications and Announcements.
    1. J. Redd–Williams thanked the committee for the potted plant.
    2. Congrats! J. Redd–Williams noted that our application made it to
      round two of the Sloan Foundation Grant. The survey will be
      available September 17, 2007 and requires a 40% response rate. If
      we make 40%, J. Redd–Williams will need draft of Faculty Friendly
      policies by October 1, 2007.
    3. Week of September 17 th election of Departmental Hearing Panel
      committed 25% of the faculty.
    4. Confusion about which Retention, Tenure and Promotion (RTP)
      process applies to those faculty members who came in with service
      credit. Email was sent to chairs for Academic Personnel.
    5. September 20 th the Provost will attend the Personnel Committee
      meeting to discuss Teaching Evaluations. The committee hopes to
      completed revisions and present to the Academic Senate in the Fall
      semester.
    6. Mixer (Professional), cocktail, wine and cheese social at the Alumni
      House. J. Olson–Buchanan will query participating organizations.
  4. New Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Academic Policy Manual
    (APM).
    The new CBA and APM will be revised soon.
  5. Policy on the Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness (APM 322).
    Committee on Teaching Effectiveness met over the summer. J. Redd–
    Williams completed the Request for Proposal (RFP) for consultant on the
    project and it will be circulated soon.
    This policy will be discussed on September 20, 2007.
  6. Department of Social Work Articles of Governance.
    The committee sent the articles of governance back to the Social Work
    Department with specific and general recommendations. The committee
    found two additional items needing to be changed. The committee will
    communicate this to the Social Work Department.
  7. College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (CAST) Articles of
    Governance.
    The Articles of Governance were sent back to Executive Committee in
    May of 2007. We await the new revisions.
  8. Policy & Procedures for Fingerprinting & Conducting Background
    Checks.
    Discussion postponed.

MSC to adjourn (10:50 a.m.)

The next scheduled meeting of the Personnel Committee will be Thursday,
September 20, 2007 in UC #203. An agenda will be distributed prior to the
meeting. The entire committee membership may be reached at the e-mail alias
“perscom”.
