Members Present: R. Hansen (Chair), I. Basurto, K. Clement, D. Hart, D. Nef, L. Zelezny.
Members Absent: T. Miller (excused), K. Mountcastle.

The meeting was called to order at by Chair Hansen at 11:00 a.m. in the University Center, Room #203.
- Minutes. MSC to approve the minutes of 11/13/06.
- Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.
- Communications and Announcements.
Vacancies – Agriculture Sciences and Technology, Engineering,
Health and Human Services, Library Services.
D. Nef and Chair Hansen discussed the possibility of doing some recruitment, and if anyone on the committee knows of someone who would fit the purposes of our committee, we would like you to submit their name so we can approach them. - Discuss Provost Rejection of Writing Across the Curriculum
(WAC) Position.
The University is considering funding for a 1/3 or 1/2 time position, drawing from campus faculty. As a committee we need to think about what this position entails, perhaps help run the search or make suggestions to Provost Echeverria about requirements for this position.
If you have ideas about the kind of expertise needed for this position, please email Chair Hansen at (rhansen@csufresno.edu). Chair Hansen will begin to develop a list of suggestions. - Writing Program Web Page Review – Consider Revisions.

Discussion postponed. - Discuss Upper Division Writing Requirement.
Chair Hansen submitted a draft of requirements for W courses which the committee revised. The revision will be posted to the committee via email and if you have any revision suggestions or concerns, email a response to Chair Hansen, and he will bring a revised copy to the next meeting for discussion and a vote.
Discussion also raised the question of support for writing teachers by developing a web site dedicated to W issues and pedagogy. - Establish a Time Frame for Completion.
Discussion postponed. - New First Year Writing Program– Review Results.
Discussion postponed. - Writing Portfolio Requirement – Consider a Writing Portfolio Requirement.
Discussion postponed. - Upper Division Writing Exam (UDWE) and Grades in W Courses.
Discussion about grading in W courses and the efficiency of the UDWE led to the suggestion that the UDWE be dropped and all students would be required to take an upper division writing class.
D. Nef is going to contact IR and gather data on grading and testing outcomes. - W Course Criteria/Guidelines – Complete and Secure Senate Approval.
