A meeting of the Academic Senate was called to order by Chair Botwin at 4:05 p.m. in the University Center, Room #200.
- Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 12/1/08.
- Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda.
- Communications and Announcements.
ASI Vice-President Lauren Johnson informed the Senate regarding
student input on the Budget Summit held in February, including a
layered roll-out of library services by floor, reducing duplication of
operational functions on campus, reducing administrative pay,
reducing social functions, removing U.S. Post Office from USU,
preserve Psychological Services and many additional items. For a
complete list, contact ASI, Inc. or the Academic Senate office. - New Business.
There was no new business. - Consent Calendar.
A. Policy on Faculty Merit Increase (APM 329)-Personnel
Committee.
The Academic Senate briefly discussed the protocol for
removing policies, as well as reasoning for removing the
Policy on Faculty Merit Increase (APM 329). As a result of
the discussion, the following motion was passed:
MSC to approve the recommendation to remove the Policy
on Faculty Merit Increase (APM 329) from the
Academic Policy Manual and forward to the President
for approval. (This policy is no longer used in the
Collective Bargaining Agreement). - Proposed Certificate of Advanced Study – Psychiatric Mental Health
Nurse Practitioner.
Michael Russler, Chair of Nursing, presented the Proposed
Certificate of Advanced Study – Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse
Practitioner. The Academic Senate briefly discussed the proposal,
including the question of potential overlap with other programs
and the need for certification of practical duties already being
practiced by professionals. As a result of the discussion, the
following motion was passed:
MSC to waive second reading.
MSC to approve the Proposed Certificate of Advanced Study –
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and forward
to the President for approval. - Proposed Department Status for Recreation Administration and
Leisure Studies.
Jody Hironaka-Juteau, Coordinator, Recreation Administration
and Leisure Studies Program presented the Proposed Department
Status for Recreation Administration and Leisure Studies. As a
result of the discussion, the following motion was passed:
MSC to waive second reading.
MSC to approve the Department Status for Recreation
Administration and Leisure Studies and forward to
the President for approval. - Policy on Student Participation in Policy Development.
Chair Botwin briefly presented information regarding the Policy on
Student Participation in Policy Development. Student
representative Lauren Johnson explained the process ASI, Inc. will
be using to assist in the process. The Senate discussed the policy
and the merits of student participation. As a result of the
discussion, the following motion was passed:
MSC to return the document to the President with a
suggestion to remove the passive voice from the
document, in addition to the removal of the words
“faculty and staff” in the third sentence.
MSC to adjourn at 5:03 p.m.
The next scheduled meeting of the Academic Senate will be announced.
An Agenda will be distributed prior to the meeting.
