The meeting was called to order by Chair Otto Benavides at 1:10 p.m. in the Education Building room # 316.

1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of February 9, 2009.
2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.
3. Communications and Announcements.
   Chair O. Benavides encouraged members to join the ETAN, the
   EdTechActionNetwork at http://www.edtechactionnetwork.org because
   of its importance to technology and education.
4. (APM 206) Interim Policies & Procedures on Technology Mediated
   Courses.
   This policy proposed revision was posted for review by the AIT
   Committee:

   The committee discussed the scope of the policy. The documents

5. Student Laptop Recommendations – R. Boes.
   R. Boes gave an update on student laptop review with a goal of finding a
   minimal cost configuration (2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard drive, dual core
   processor, DVD) a student could use for 3 years without becoming
   obsolete. Netbooks are attractive for some purposes, but properly
   configured (e.g., 1 GB RAM memory) would cost almost as much as a
   laptop with less functionality. The statement being developed will
   recommend a laptop with a note advising for netbooks are possible as a
   secondary device, but should not yet be considered as a primary
   computer. The minimum standard is what is used by the Financial Aids
   Office in calculating student need and support.
   For example, the following specifications and pricing are based off
   of the Dell online site specifically for CSU, Fresno students.
   Dell Laptop Min configuration:
   (Based off of the Dell Inspiron 15 laptop model with basic options
   priced at: $580.00 before taxes and shipping)
   Min Memory: 2 Gbytes
   Min Processor: Intel® Pentium® Dual Core T4200
   (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/1MB cache)
   Min Hard Drive: 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
   Dell Desktop Min configuration:
   (Based off of the Dell Inspiron 530 desktop model with basic
   options priced at: $548.00 before taxes and shipping)
   Min Memory: 3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4
   DIMMs
   Min Processor: Intel® Pentium® dual-core processor E5200 (2MB
   L2, 2.5GHz, 800FSB)
   Min Hard Drive: 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
   w/DataBurst Cache™
   The recommended configuration for Apple computers will be comparable.
   MSC that Academic Information Technology (AIT) support a
   recommendation for a laptop minimum configuration
   with 2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard drive, dual core processor, &
   DVD.
6. Laptop Refresh Plan Update.
   R. Boes summarized conclusions on Faculty Laptop Refresh: keeping the
   size of laptops in current program, deferring monitor refresh to a 5-year
   cycle. All of the leases in the program have a dollar buyout to the leasing
   company. The University is recovering the laptops centrally and these
   will be re-assigned for various purposes. The bulk of the machines will
   go to the Library checkout. There will also be a reserve pool for faculty to
   check out (e.g., on a semester basis).
7. New Phone System Update.
   R. Boes gave an update on a design for the new phone system just
   approved. The design takes the budgetary situation into account. The
   new system will replace the old system that can no longer be maintained
   with a new system that can be maintained and is extensible into newer
   features (e.g., video). The final purchase agreement is currently being
   worked out and phone deployments are scheduled to begin in June.
