The meeting was called to order at 10:30 a.m. by Chair Botwin in University Center, Room #203.
- Chair Botwin introduced new Provost William Covino.
- Chair Botwin presented a request from the Campus Planning Committee to change the
name of the Psychology/Human Services Building to Professional Human Services Building.
MSC to approve the name change of the Psychology/ Human Services Building to Professional Human Services Building and forward it to the President for approval. - Chair Botwin invited Dr. Welty to address the committee regarding budgetary issues.
Documents from the CSU Board of trustees meeting and a proposed 2009/2010 Proposed Incremental Budget Plan.
The following reductions in the 2009-2010 are being proposed:
Eliminate all but mandatory expenses.
Management and staff reductions will include 75-80 positions.
Severe reductions in travel.
Eliminate vacant positions
Eliminate 900-1350 (annualized) courses, depending on the outcome of furlough negotiations.
235 part-time faculty positions have not been renewed.
60-80 Full-Time Equivalent Faculty positions will need to be reduced. This will affect mostly lecturers, some who will face assignment reductions.
There is no projected effect on tenured and tenure track faculty positions.
Substantial reductions in assigned time, especially in the Spring.
Student employment will be reduced in excess of 50%.
Early library closures. The library will only be open 4 hours on the weekend. No student assistants will be hired to work in the library. There will be substantial reductions in holdings budget.
Substantial reductions in campus technology, elimination of positions for a total of $1.9 million.
Advancement would lose a total of 18 positions, some of which are already unfilled.
Athletic reductions will amount to 15-20% of operating expenses. Assistant coach vacancies will not be filled.
Dr. Welty fielded several questions from the committee.
Members of the expanded committee were dismissed.
Spring 2010 admissions have been closed. There are very few exceptions to this decision.
Fall 2010 admission could be reduced by raising the eligibility index. - An automated parking system will be created to automate visitor permits in lieu of
relaxed parking.
