Members Present: C. Edmondson (Chair), A. Fiala, D. Lewis, F. Padilla,
K. Fugelsang, K. Singley (student).

Members Absent: None.

Visitors: Carolyn Coon, Tina Beddall, Tosha Giuffrida, Jim Kus,
Bernie Vinovrski, Gina Gechter.

The meeting was called to order by Chair Edmondson at 10:00 a.m. in the
University Center Room #203.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 1/21/2009.
  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.
  3. Communication and Announcements.
    Introduction of Kayla Singley, our new student member.
  4. Financial Crisis and Budget: Effects on Students.
    Discussion of Budget Issues with Bernie Vinovrski and Jim Kus.
    1. J. Kus and B. Vinovrski presented an overview of the budget process.
    2. Issues discussed included:
      • Funding models, the Orange Book, and “modes of instruction”.
      • “Impacted programs” and demand for majors/classes.
      • Current solutions including: closing lower division transfers and
        phasing out second Bachelor’s degrees—the goal is to serve our
        currently enrolled students.
  5. (APM 231) Interim Policy on Adding and Dropping Classes.
    Continued discussion of Policy on Adding and Dropping Classes (APM 231)
    with Tina Beddall and Tosha Giuffrida. A few minor changes in wording were
    suggested.
  6. (APM 233) Policy on Repeating Classes.
    Postponed.
  7. (APM 236) Honor Code of Academic Integrity and (APM 235) Policy on
    Cheating and Plagiarism.
    Postponed.

MSC to adjourn at 11:30 a.m.

The next scheduled meeting of the Student Affairs will be Wednesday, March 4,
2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the University Center #203.
