A meeting of the Academic Senate was called to order by Chair Botwin at 4:05 p.m. in the University Center, Room 200.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 2/1/10.

  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as amended to add a new item #8. Motion: Timetable for the Implementation of New Teaching Effectiveness Evaluations and to move item #5. Graduate Culture at Fresno State to the new item #10. and renumber the remaining items accordingly.

  3. Communications and Announcements.

    1. Provost Covino shared information regarding the $2.9 million stimulus funding being allocated on campus to assist in multiple areas including providing sections needed for students to graduate and faculty development.

    2. Statewide Senator Amaral made remarks about a document she provided to the Academic Senate titled, “Report on Student Evaluations of Teaching” authored by Joint Committee: The California State University, California Faculty Association and Academic Senate CSU.

    3. Statewide Senator Otto Benavides provided information about the Statewide Academic Senate, including committees on which they serve involved teacher preparation and instructional technology.

  4. New Business.

    Statewide Senator J. Amaral made a request to submit a Motion: Timetable for the Implementation of New Teaching Effectiveness Evaluations and add to today’s agenda.

    MSC to add the Motion: Timetable for the Implementation of New Teaching Effectiveness Evaluations to today’s agenda.

  5. General Education Student Learning Outcomes - General Education.

    MSC to postpone General Education Student Learning Outcomes until March 22, 2010.

  6. Revision to the Library Subcommittee Charge – Library Subcommittee.

    The item will return to the Academic Senate for a Second Reading.

  7. Antelope Valley Engineering Programs (AVEP) at Lancaster University Center – Phase out of Graduate Program Offerings-Graduate Committee.

    The item will return to the Academic Senate for a Second Reading.

  8. Motion: Timetable for the Implementation of New Teaching Effectiveness Evaluations – J. Amaral.

    The item will return to the Academic Senate for a Second Reading.

  9. Policy On Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness (APM 322) – Personnel Committee.

    Brain Tsukimura, Chair of the Personnel Committee, briefly presented an overview of the proposed changes to the policy. Senator Holyoke requested information on the necessity to make these changes. Christina Leimer, Director of Institutional Research Assessment and Planning, provided information regarding the challenges faced by IRAP with regard to processing forms under the current system. Dr. Tsukimura addressed questions from the floor.

    The item will return to the Academic Senate for a Second Reading.

  10. Graduate Culture at Fresno State - Graduate Culture Task Force – Second Reading - Continued.

    MSC to move Graduate Culture at Fresno State to the last item on today’s agenda.

    The item will return to the Academic Senate for a continued Second Reading.

MSC to adjourn at 5:36 p.m.

The next scheduled meeting of the Academic Senate will be announced. An Agenda will be distributed prior to the meeting.
