A meeting of the Academic Senate was called to order by Chair Botwin at 4:07 p.m. in the University Center, Room 200.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 3/15/10.

  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.

  3. Communications and Announcements.

    Chair Botwin reported that the General Education Committee is currently holding discussions about potential changes in the upper division general education requirements. However, the committee is still deliberating on potential changes. They have not made brought forth any recommended revision to general education program to the Academic Senate (the multicultural component of general education) at this time.

  4. New Business – There was no new business.

  5. General Education Student Learning Outcomes - General Education – Second Reading - Continued.

    MSC (unanimous) to insert the word “race” prior to the word gender in area MI.1 (page 5)

    MSC to replace the word “or” with the word “and” in area IC (page 5)

    MSF to adjust the language in C.1.3 to represent actual skill development.

    MSC (unanimous) to approve the recommendations of the General Education Committee and forward to the President for approval.

  6. Policy On Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness (APM 322) – Personnel Committee – Second Reading - Continued.

    MS to accept an amendment by F. Schreiber. The Senate engaged in a lengthy discussion with regard to standards of reliability and validity. The motion will be carried forward into the next meeting.

MSC to adjourn at 5:35 p.m.

The next scheduled meeting of the Academic Senate will be announced. An Agenda will be distributed prior to the meeting.
