A meeting of the Academic Senate was called to order by Chair Botwin at 4:04 p.m. in the University Center, Room 200.

1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 8/31/09.

2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda.

3. Communications and Announcements.

   1. Associate Provost Ellen Junn announced the Kick-Off Event for the new Center for Scholarly Advancement of Learning and Teaching (CSALT) scheduled for October 8, 2009, 2:00-3:30 p.m. in the Henry Madden Library, Table Mountain Rancheria Reading Room, third floor.

   2. Eric Person introduced a study skill initiative called Raise the Bar: Ideas for Engaging Students Outside of Class and Holding Students Accountable for Work Outside of Class.

   3. Alisha Howell (student) Sustainability Coordinator, made a presentation to the Academic Senate to announce the Campus Sustainability Day scheduled for October 21, 2009.

4. New Business.

   There was no new business.

5. Consent Calendar.

   1. Certificate of Advanced Study: Teaching American History – Graduate Committee.

      Michelle DenBeste made a brief presentation regarding the Certificate.

      Consent Calendar: Since no objections were voiced, the Policy is deemed approved by the Academic Senate and forward to the President for his approval.

6. Policy on Adding and Dropping Classes (APM 231)- Student Affairs Committee – Second Reading.

   MSC to approve friendly amendments as provided by the Student Affairs Committee.

   MSC to approve the Policy on Adding and Dropping Classes (APM 231) and forward to the President for his approval.

MSC to adjourn at 4:24 p.m.

The next scheduled meeting of the Academic Senate will be announced. An Agenda will be distributed prior to the meeting.
