Members Absent: O. Benavides (excused), D. Martin (excused).

The meeting was called to order by Acting Chair J. Cagle at 1:10 p.m. in the Education Building room #316.

(Chair O. Benavides was attending a conference.)

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of October 12, 2009.

  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as amended:

    Add the following Agenda items:

    1. Academic Information Technology (AIT) representative: Emergency Change Advisory Board for Active Directory.

    2. (APM 206) Interim Policies and Procedures on Technology-mediated Courses and Programs.

    3. Data storage and intellectual property matters.

  3. Communications and Announcements.

    1. B. Auernheimer announced January 20, 2010, a Digital Campus conference about Best Practices for Online Degrees and Certificates.

    2. R. Boes had two ITS announcements: Windows Trent Anti-Virus will be upgrades from 8 to 10 this afternoon. The new Sophos is up and running now.

    3. Wednesday night there will be a planned Zimbra outage to upgrade to Zimbra 7.

    4. Windows 7 was discussed. HelpDesk will provide partial support at beginning of Spring 2010 semester.

  4. AIT representative: Emergency Change Advisory Board for Active Directory.

    R. Boes described the need for this special advisory board to respond for emergency changes needed discovered through Active Directory. Some tech expertise is needed. The AIT Committee will appoint someone at the next meeting.

  5. (APM 206) Interim Policies and Procedures on Technology-mediated Courses and Programs.

    D. Nef gave background on a new draft, separating policy from procedure.

    The AIT Committee discussed this draft. Among the issues discussed, the matter of identification authentication in online courses came up. How do we know who is doing the work? A federal law being evolved suggests one approach.

    MSC to replace “equivalent” with “similar” in I. Rationale

    MSC to insert into the draft in II. Responsibilities:

    “The university will ensure a process is in place to verify the identity of students taking examinations in online courses.”

    MSC to insert in III. C.:

    “Pursuant to APM 241, a print copy of the syllabus and any amendments shall be on file in the department office.”

  6. Data storage and intellectual property matters.

    Topic will be picked up next week. .

MSC to adjourn at 2:30 p.m.

The next scheduled meeting of the Academic Information Technology Subcommittee (AIT) will be on Monday, November 9, 2009 @ 1:00 p.m. in the Education Building #316.
