Members Present: Michael Botwin, Michael Caldwell, Jacinta Amaral, William Covino, Gena Gechter O. Harald Schweizer, Jessica Sweeten (student), Lynn Williams, President Welty.

Visitors: S. Hayes, B. Tsukimura.

The meeting was called to order at 3:02 p.m. by Chair Botwin in the Thomas Administration Building, Room #117.

  1. Approval. MSC to approve the Minutes of 2/8/10.

  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda.

  3. Communications and Announcements. (Anyone wishing a copy of the items distributed or discussed, may contact the Academic Senate Office).

    Information Items.

    1. President Welty announced the procedures that are underway with regarding to filling the position of Faculty Athletic Representative currently held by Lynn Williams. He also described the process with regard to evaluating and implementing suggestions from the Budget Summit. The mechanism for requesting leave with regard to the collective bargaining agreement was also discussed.

    2. Provost Covino announced the receipt of additional Chancellor’s office funding that will be used for adding sections.

    3. Chair Botwin announced his attendance at the statewide Academic Senate chairs meeting, which included a presentation by Chancellor Reed.

  4. Model Resolution on Intercollegiate Athletics for Faculty Senates— Second Reading

    MSC to send Model Resolution on Intercollegiate Athletics for Faculty Senates to the Academic Senate for endorsement with acknowledgement from the Chair Botwin in support of positive efforts by the Athletic Department.

  5. Resolution on Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness and Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness (APM 322) - Continued.

    Items discussed included protocol for minimum standards at the department level and elements (formerly components) of instruction. The discussion will continue at the next meeting.

  6. Executive Session.

    There was no Executive Session.

MSC to adjourn at 4:48 p.m.

The next meeting of the Executive Committee will be Monday, March 1, 2010. An Agenda will be distributed prior to the meeting.
