A meeting of the Academic Senate was called to order by Chair Caldwell
at 4:06 p.m. in the Library Auditorium, Room 2206.

1. Agenda.          MSC to approve the Agenda as amended
                             to add a new item #7. Updated Policies and
                             Procedures for Addressing Discrimination,
                             Harassment, and Retaliation

2. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 8/30/10.

3. Communications and Announcements.

A. Chair Caldwell shared information and meeting minutes of
the Expanded Executive Committee that met over the past
summer (6/1/10 and 8/10/10). Chair Caldwell’s overview
included a description of the charge and outcome of the Ad
Hoc Committee (of the Academic Senate Expanded Executive
Committee) to Investigate Student Rating Instruments and
the MSC to transfer American Indian Studies to the
Department of Anthropology. The Ad Hoc Committee’s
report is available upon request.

B. Provost Covino announced Janette Redd Williams is retiring
in December. Ted Wendt, Professor of Theatre and former
Associate Vice President of Faculty Affairs at CSU Stanislaus
will become the interim Associate Vice President for
Academic Personnel beginning January 2011. A search for a
permanent Associate Vice President for Academic Personnel
will be held. Dr. Wendt will not be a candidate for the
permanent position.

C. Associate Provost Junn announced upcoming events for the
Red Balloon Initiative and the fall initiatives of CSALT and
TILT.

D. Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Karen Carey, reminded
Senators about the upcoming Technology Petting Zoo.

E. Senator Otto Benavides (State-wide) announced the School of
Education’s upcoming centennial celebration events.

F. Senator Jan Slagter distributed a handout regarding the
location of toxic waste dump/recycling center on campus.
The topic will be added as an Academic Senate agenda item
in the future.

G. Chair Caldwell reminded Senators that the Academic Senate
will take a group photo during the September 27th meeting.

4. New Business.

There was no new business.

5. Consent Calendar.

A. Updated Policies and Procedures for Addressing
Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation - Janette Redd
Williams, Associate Vice President, Academic Personnel
President Welty discussed changes to the policies and
procedures as being mainly in response to Executive Order
1045.

MSC              Senator J. Slagter asked for the policy
                       to be removed from the Consent Calendar.
                      New agenda item #7.

6. Policy On Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness (APM 322) –
Personnel Committee – Second Reading – Continued.

MSC          to accept an amendment to add the following sentence to
                  the end of the paragraph Section II.B:

“When possible, the instructor should also receive adjusted
scores that take into account external factors beyond the
control of the instructor.”

MSC          to accept an amendment to revise Section VII.A by striking
                  “university-wide”. Section VII.A will now read as:

“Standardized instructions to the ratings questionnaire will
be provided by the proctor. These standardized
instructions shall:”

MSC          to accept an amendment to make the following changes to
                   Section IX:

a. the title of Section IX will change to “Summary of
Policy”, and

b. the sentence following Section IX’s title will change to
read as “In accord with the foregoing provisions,
departments shall develop written policies and
procedures in accord with colleges as appropriate that
describe:” and

c. to remove “additional” from Section IX.A.

7. Updated Policies and Procedures for Addressing Discrimination,
Harassment, and Retaliation - Janette Redd Williams, Associate
Vice President, Academic Personnel

Tabled to next Academic Senate agenda.

MSC to adjourn at 5:28 p.m.

The next scheduled meeting of the Academic Senate will be announced.
An Agenda will be distributed prior to the meeting.
