The meeting was called to order by Chair Popma at 9:05 a.m. in Thomas #117.
1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 2/3/11.
2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.
3. Communications and Announcements.
A. APM 325 (Interim Policy on Fingerprinting and Conducting Background
Checks) had its first reading at the Feb. 7, 2011 Senate meeting. Many
questions were raised and a lively discussion ensued.
P. Popma will email T. Wendt for the boiler plate wording on background
checks that is used in current hiring letters.
4. Nine-thirty a.m. (time certain) — met with Michael Caldwell to discuss IDEA and
departmental policies for implementation.
M. Caldwell and T. Wendt attended an IDEA Train the Trainers session.
M. Caldwell and T. Wendt will develop a simple policy that outlines the
decisions that the individual departments need to make in order to comply with
APM 322. Once vetted at the Personnel Committee and the Academic Senate,
this will be an attachment to APM 322.
M. Caldwell and T. Wendt will develop an implementation plan for rolling out
IDEA student ratings forms.
5. Finish review of APM 327, Policy on Promotion.
Review postponed.
6. Finish review of APM 325, Policy on Retention and Tenure.
Review postponed.
