Thesis Submission
Consistent with California State University policy for Continuous Enrollment and graduation requirements.
On time: Thesis submitted on or before posted deadline
For students to graduate on-time:
• To graduate in the spring semester, approved theses must be
submitted to the Dissertation/Thesis Office on or before the posted
deadline for spring semester, usually 6 weeks prior to the final week
of the semester.
• To graduate in the fall semester, approved theses must be
submitted to the Dissertation/Thesis Office on or before the posted
deadline for fall semester, usually 6 weeks prior to the final week of
the semester.
More time: Thesis submitted on or before the final day of
instruction
For thesis students who cannot meet the posted thesis deadline but can
complete thesis requirements by the final day of instruction:
Students who cannot meet the posted thesis deadline for the current
semester cannot graduate in that term. However, as an alternative, students
who do not meet the thesis deadline, but complete all thesis requirements by
the final day of instruction, and have a “Graduate Degree Clearance” form on
file by the final day of the semester, will be permitted to enroll in the
immediate subsequent semester or summer in a reduced cost ($350) zero-unit
course (GS Continuation, through Continuing and Global Education) to comply
with the continuous enrollment policy for graduate students. GS Continuation
can only be taken once, and it cannot require additional faculty resources (i.e.,
time/workload). Students must be enrolled in the zero-unit course by or
before the first day of instruction in the semester they graduate:
1. Reach out to request enrollment (gradstudies@mail.fresnostate.edu)
2. Degree specialists to confirm eligibility for enrollment
3. Student will be contacted with enrollment information (permission
number)
Out-of-time: Thesis not completed by final day of instruction
For thesis students who cannot complete all thesis requirements by the final day
of instruction:
If students cannot complete all thesis requirements by the final day of
instruction in a semester, they must enroll in their department’s zero-unit 299C
course and pay stateside fees in a subsequent semester or summer. For fee

Permission to enroll in the 299C course must be obtained through the college/
school and in some cases, it may not be available.
