Claude Laval, Jr. Award - for Innovative Technology and Research
Fresno State Student Funded for Universe Mapping Research
California State University, Fresno student Junya Kasahara has been chosen as the 2000-01 recipient of the Claude Laval, Jr. Award for Innovative Technology and Research. Kasahara’s research project, "Mapping the Large Scale Structure of the Universe with Hierarchical Image Segmentation," earned him the $2,000 award. Kasahara will use a technique he learned while viewing satellite images of Earth to quantify the structure of the universe on its largest scale. Mr. Kasahara’s faculty sponsor is Dr. Frederick Ringwald.
