Grants and Other Funded Research

It is important to know that proposed Human Subjects research projects must be submitted through Kuali before submitting grant applications. In particular, the NSF requires that an IRB letter be attached to applications. Two types of letters can be provided; an IRB Approval letter or an IRB letter stating the project is under review. However, neither type of letter will be provided from CPHS if the project has not yet been submitted in Kuali.

• Faculty who are planning to apply for grants are strongly encouraged to enter their project into Kuali and have it reviewed prior to submitting a grant application.
• Outside funding agencies require an IRB approval letter as part of their review process.
• CPHS will not provide any letters of approval or statements that a project is under review if the PI has not submitted it in Kuali.
• Delays may occur if the PI has not planned accordingly.
• Whether working with ORSP or University Initiatives, it is the PI’s responsibility to ensure all CPHS procedures have been followed before applying for grants.
• Plan accordingly so that if an IRB letter is required, there is time for a review (cursory or full) to be completed.
