Members Present: J. Kus (Chair), N. Bengiamin, J. Constable,
J. Hironaka-Juteau, E. Junn, A. Parham, J. Parks,
T. Wielicki.

Members Absent: None.

Visitors: J. Waayers.

The meeting was called to order by Chair J. Kus at 3:17 p.m. in the University
Center # 203.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 2/25/2009.
  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.
  3. Communications and Announcements.
    There were none.
  4. New Business.
    There was none.
  5. Advancement Budget - Discussion with Vice President P. Smits.
    Vice President P. Smits met with the committee to review the 08-09 budget
    for Advancement. It was noted that approximately 46 percent of the
    Advancement budget comes from state sources whereas the remaining
    monies are from University Improvement funding (derived from interest
    earned on trust accounts in the Foundation) and from other Foundation
    sources. Almost all of the state monies are used for salaries of
    Advancement employees (with a small amount for supplies and services)
    whereas the non-state funds are used for salaries and benefits of some
    Advancement employees, for various promotional activities, for operating
    expenses, for the school/college development activities, and for various
    other Advancement operations. P. Smits also distributed a spreadsheet
    comparing 2007-08 and 2008-09 Advancement budgets. He also discussed
    the progress of the Comprehensive Campaign, which has received more
    than one hundred million dollars since July 1, 2005.
  6. Update on AY 2008-09 Budget.
    There was no new information available regarding the AY 2008-09 budget.
  7. Update on AY 2009-10 Budget.
    There was no new information available regarding the AY 2009-20 budget,
    although Associate Provost E. Junn noted that an update should be
    available after the President's cabinet meeting on March 9th.

MSC to adjourn at 4:24 p.m.

The next University Budget Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, March 11,
2009 at 3:30 p.m. in the University Center #203.
