Minutes of the University Budget Committee

Members Present: J. Kus (Chair), N. Bengiamin, J. Constable,
J. Hironaka-Juteau, E. Junn, A. Parham, J. Parks,
T. Wielicki.

Members Absent: None.

Visitors: J. Waayers.

The meeting was called to order by Chair J. Kus at 3:35 p.m. in the University
Center # 203.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 3/4/2009.
  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.
  3. Communications and Announcements.
    1. Chair J. Kus noted that both he and T. Wielicki will be away from
      campus on 3/18/09.
    2. Chair J. Kus noted that the deadline for submission of items to the
      Executive Committee of the Academic Senate is the Monday, March
      13, 2009. Currently there are no items pending before the committee
      that would need to be submitted to the Executive Committee, but it is
      always possible that items will be referred to the University Budget
      Committee (UBC) from other Senate committees during the next few
      weeks.
    3. N. Bengiamin and J. Constable updated the committee on the work of
      the ad hoc subcommittee (composed of three deans and three
      members of the UBC) that is working on possible revision of the new
      budget model. It was noted that interim Provost D. Nef met with the
      subcommittee and has slightly revised the charge of the group.
  4. New Business.
    There was none.
  5. Update on AY 08-09 Budget.
    There was no new information related to the AY 08-09 budget.
  6. Update on AY 09-10 Budget.
    Associate Provost E. Junn noted that at the last President’s Cabinet
    meeting (on 3/9/09), President J. Welty asked the vice presidents to
    reformat their proposals for budget reductions to a standard format. The
    revised proposals have been submitted to the deans for review. It is
    expected that the proposals will be available to the members of the UBC in
    the near future.

MSC to adjourn at 4:40 p.m.

The next University Budget Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, March 25,
2009 at 3:30 p.m. in the University Center #203.
