Minutes of the University Budget Committee

Members Present: J. Constable (Chair), N. Bengiamin, J. Kus, P. Newell, A. Parham, J. Parks, J. Waayers.

Member Absent: None.

The meeting was called to order by Chair Constable at 3:34 p.m. in TA #117.

  1. Minutes. MSC to approve the Minutes of 3/24/10.

  2. Agenda. MSC to approve the Agenda as distributed.

  3. Communications and Announcements.

    The external review of the MBT program was distributed to Committee members by J. Constable.

    J. Kus provided the UBC with an update regarding the discussion of the new parking regulations at FACEL. Key points noted were:

    • There is the expectation that in the future all visitors to campus will require a permit and use the permit dispensers and a parking code.
    • At this time, relaxed parking regulations will apply campus-wide for four events during the year: Future Farmers of America, Peach Blossom Festival, Vintage Days, and Commencement.
    • Theater events will be regulated by hand distribution of permits to patrons who state they are present for theater events, patrons indicating they are present for other reasons will be required to purchase a permit.
    • It was indicated that for the 2010-2011 academic year, Departments and Programs requesting parking for events will receive permit codes at no charge, however, charges may be levied for events in future years.

  4. New Business.

    There were none.

  5. Update on the Capital Campaign - P. Smits

    P. Smits was unable to attend and has re-scheduled for April 21, 2010.

  6. Discussion of the DPT Program - Dr. P. Trueblood

    P. Trueblood was unable to attend, and has re-scheduled for April 14, 2010.

    The DPT program was discussed briefly and several comments were noted primarily centering around the future state requirement for a DPT and the current low enrollment of the DPT program. The Secretary of State for California website noted that the DPT would be required by Fall 2015, but the committee was unsure how this requirement affected licensing of new PT graduates. Discussion also addressed cost of the DPT as opposed to the current MPT and whether or not increased costs of the DPT might reduce the program’s enrollment projections.

MSC to adjourn at 4:20 p.m.

The next University Budget Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. in TA #117.
