Student Standing

Conditionally Classified
The applicant granted conditionally classified graduate standing has:

  • been admitted to the university.
  • not yet satisfied all program admission requirements.

The applicant who has been granted classified graduate standing has:

  • been admitted to the university.
  • fulfilled all program admission requirements.

Thus, classified graduate students are those who have been fully admitted to their program.

The culminating experience for a student’s graduate program is carefully spelled out by the California State Education Code, Title 5. Students may choose one culminating experience from the three, as determined by the particular program. Not all programs offer all three options. Please review for specific information related to theses, projects, and comprehensive exams.

Degrees are not granted automatically. Graduate students who anticipate completing all courses and requirements by the final day of a term, must apply for graduation online at their Student Center (My Academic Records & Registration > Graduation Application), receive online approval from their graduate program coordinator/director, and pay a non-refundable application filing fee in order to complete the graduation application process.
