The Director's Welcome

Welcome! We are thrilled that you are considering pursuing your university education as a Scholar at Fresno State’s Smittcamp Family Honors College (SFHC). Our motto at SFHC is "EXCEL." That simply means that, as a President’s Honors Scholar (Scholar), you will give your very best effort to each of your various undertakings: academic coursework, community service, studying abroad, conducting research and/or other scholarly and creative activity projects, completing internships, and taking leadership positions. We do, of course, hope that you will continue to excel beyond the four years that you will typically spend with us.

What makes all this possible? First, it is YOU, an outstanding student who pursues challenges and wants to excel through hard work and determination. Second, it is us, SFHC’s unique and dedicated faculty and staff and its dynamic living-learning environment. This learning community combines the three elements of a successful college experience—academic, residential, social—with connected faculty and staff and the opportunity for students to learn, lead, and excel.
