Team Based Learning

Another teaching strategy that lends itself well to service-learning is Team Based Learning (TBL).  Although it requires some upfront work on the part of the faculty member, the learning gets placed on squarely on the shoulders of students.  TBL, in contrast with casual or cooperative group learning methods, keeps the same 5 to 7 students working together collaboratively throughout the semester.  The emphasis is on teamwork (opposed to groupwork) where all the projects and learning activities are conducted collaboratively with a strong caveat against divide and conquer strategies, namely no group papers.
