National Higher Education Data
IPEDS, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System
The best source of comparative data for universities and colleges. The CSU Chancellor’s Office reports this data to the National Center for Education Statistics for each CSU campus. This site includes data on Institutional Characteristics, Enrollment, Graduation and Retention, Finances, etc. To find information on this site, use the IPEDS Data Analysis System (DAS) or the Executive Peer Tool (ExPT). DAS offers more ways to see the data, but lacks the user-friendliness of ExPT. If you need to enter Fresno State's UnitID, it is 110556.
Education Resources Information Center (ERIC)
With more than 1.1 million citations going back to 1966, the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a good source for beginning a literature search. Most of the articles listed in its database are not available on the site, but once you find what you need you can take the citations to our Library for assistance in retrieving the articles.
Here you’ll find reports on Science, Engineering and Technology, some of which go beyond education into Research and Development, Workforce and Social Dimensions. A list of the surveys upon which most of these reports are based (such as the Survey of Earned Doctorates) includes descriptors and, in some cases, access to statistical tables or more extensive data for analysis.
National Postsecondary Education Cooperative
The National Postsecondary Education Cooperative (NPEC) is a voluntary partnership of postsecondary institutions, associations, government agencies, and organizations. NPEC receives funding from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), U.S. Department of Education. Here you’ll find data and reports on a wide range of education topics from Early Childhood through Postsecondary.
National Education Data Resource Center
If you have a specific, well-defined question, this may be the place to ask it. Researchers at this site accept requests and can produce tables drawn from the National Postsecondary Student Aid Study, National Study of Postsecondary Faculty, and the surveys Beginning Postsecondary Students, and Baccalaureate and Beyond.
