Meet the OIE Team
Dr. George R. Still IIIAssociate Vice President559.278.3905 | gstill@csufresno.eduDr. George Still earned his Ph.D. in sociology from Virginia Tech, focusing on social inequality and higher education. He is a first-generation college graduate. Prior to Fresno State, Dr. Still served as the director of assessment for the Division of Student Affairs at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. In this role, he conducted student survey research. He oversaw annual reports, program reviews, and accreditation support, in addition to his leadership role on the campus’s data governance committee, the campus climate committee, and various retention committees. He also serves on the Grand Challenges in Assessment national workgroup and the Commission on Assessment for ACPA. |

Celeste DeMonteAdministrative Support Coordinator559.278.3906 | celestedemonte@csufresno.eduFresno State alumna Celeste DeMonte had careers as a graphic designer, residential real estate appraiser, and user assistance professional (technical writer) before coming to Fresno State as Program Review Coordinator, CPHS Coordinator, and OIE Administrative Support Coordinator. In addition to her professional roles at Fresno State, she serves on the Staff Assembly Executive Committee (SAEC) and as an EEOD representative. She was recently named to the College of Arts and Humanities Advisory Board (AHAB). Outside of campus, she is involved on the boards of Valley Public Radio, Fresno Community Chorus, and Fresno Filmworks. Before earning her BA in Art from Fresno State, she attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. |

Marie Tongson-FernandezSurvey Specialist559.278.3906 | mfernandez@csufresno.eduMarie Tongson-Fernandez has been part of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) since 2004, currently serving as an OIE Survey Specialist. In her role, she assists the university community by designing a variety of surveys and data collection tools, ranging from simple to complex. She also provides guidance to faculty, staff, and students on how to efficiently gather valuable information. As a certified Qualtrics user, Marie enhances survey design and collaborates with her colleague, Chris Hernandez, on the campus Qualtrics survey team. Additionally, Marie serves as the technical lead for the campus High Impact Practices (HIPs) Student Research Symposium, which is held every semester at Fresno State. |

Hongtao YueSr. Research Analyst559.278.7306 | hoyue@csufresno.eduHongtao Yue joined the Office of Institutional Effectiveness in 2008. As a Senior Research Analyst, he provides the data and analyses to meet the needs of various stakeholders, as well as conducts research and assessment in support of institutional decision-making and planning. Prior to joining Fresno State, Hongtao worked as a Senior Research Assistant at Arizona Western College, where he started his institutional research (IR) career in 2006. He holds a B.S. degree in Mathematics and a M.S. degree in Statistics. Hongtao commits to academic excellence and student success by examining students' college experiences and subsequent learning, persistence, and graduation. His scholarly work has been published in the Journal of Research in Higher Education, the Journal of Developmental Education, and the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning.

Christopher HernandezSr. Survey Research Analyst559.278.3334 | chhernandez@csufresno.edu Chris Hernandez has been part of OIE since 2015 and previously served as the Researcher/Program Evaluator for a Title V grant at Fresno State. He is a Fresno native and first-generation college student. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology from Fresno State, focusing on research methods and survey creation. Mr. Hernandez specializes in survey research and design and is a certified Research Core Expert with Qualtrics. As a member of Fresno State’s Qualtrics survey research team, he provides survey development and administration support, data analyses, and Qualtrics training to the campus community. He also utilizes Tableau to visualize surveys and other campus data. |

Cory CowanSr. Research Analyst559.278.1118 | cowancory@csufresno.eduCory Cowan earned her master's degree in General Experimental Psychology from Fresno State. Her master's thesis focused on olfactory imagery and utilized the encoding specificity principle. After completing a graduate internship at the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE), Cory was hired as a full-time staff member. She currently holds the position of Senior Research Analyst, where she specializes in program evaluation, dashboard development, and database management. Additionally, Cory serves on the Instructional Materials Subcommittee for the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI) project. |

Kyle LymanResearch Analyst559.278.3016 | kylelyman@csufresno.eduKyle has been part of the OIE team since 2022. In that time, he worked closely on institutional needs related to faculty and course data, streamlining OIE’s data processing and exploring applications of artificial intelligence. Kyle earned his master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from CSU Long Beach, where his research focused on supervisor perceptions of work-life programs and career consequences associated with their use. In addition to his role, he serves the campus as a member of the AI Policy, Ethics, and Governance Committee. When he isn’t being a data detective and solving mysteries, Kyle enjoys spending time with family, exploring new cultures and locations through the lens of food, and getting ready for his bi-annual 5K races. |

Simran NagraResearch Analyst559.278.6294 | simrann@csufresno.edu Simran Nagra is a Research Technician and Data Analyst at the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. Prior to this role, she was a staff member at the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2018 and her Master of Arts in General Experimental Psychology in 2021, both from Fresno State. In her free time, Simran enjoys reading, traveling, sleeping, and spending quality time with her family and friends. |
